GEJ praises OBJ

The president pays tribute to his predecessor at a book launch organised for him
President Goodluck Jonathan, on Tuesday, described former President Olusegun Obasanjo as an experienced and patriotic leader who never relents in his effort at ensuring that the country is transformed.
Speaking during the launch of a book, ‘The President Explains’ in honour of the former president in Abuja organised by the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), the president said Obasanjo laid the foundation for the country’s democracy.
“I am happy about the publication of the book about the priorities and programmes of former President Obasanjo between 1999 and 2007,” said Jonathan, who was represented by the Minister of Information, Labaran Maku. “He is a very experienced leader; a patriot who has had singular honour to serve this country as military head of state and a civilian president. In 1979, as the military head of state, he handed over the power to elected president.
He will be remembered by all for his effort and that is why we are here to honour him for his contribution. The ideas he shared with various Nigerians through the FRCN programmes will continue to linger on. He pointed out that radio remained a viable way for communicating the idea of the government to the people, and from the people back to the government. In every democracy, communicating with the people is so crucial; therefore, for any leader to succeed, he or she must ensure free flow of communication between the government and the people. So, I commend FRCN for the effort.”
