Kaduna state Governor rules out compensation for violence victims

Kaduna state Governor, Patrick Yakowa, on Monday ruled out any talk of compensation for victims of socio-political unrest in the state.
This is even as he denied reports in some newspapers that the current security challenges in the state had strained the relationship between him and Vice President Namadi Sambo, saying “The story is not true. The Vice President is my Boss and I have tremendous amount of respect for him.”
Yakowa, who was at the villa to attend the National Economic Council meeting which was presided over by the Vice President, assured of his government’s assistance to those affected by the conflicts that emanated from the bombing of churches in the state and other natural disasters across the state.
“We have had a lot of these crises over the years and when you talk about compensation, I’m very careful about using the word compensation,” he said.
“You can never compensate for loss of lives and property. When you have disasters, at best all that you can do is to assist and from time to time we will assist.”
The Governor who was happy that peace had returned to the state also disclosed that dialogue had since commenced with stakeholders in the state, with a view to finding lasting solution to the security challenges.
