Anxiety in Police over anticipated changes
Palpable fear has gripped officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force in anticipation of sweeping changes which the new Police boss, Mr Mohammed Abubakar, is expected to carry out in no distant time.
Worst hit by the anxiety are Assistant Inspectors-General of Police and Police Commissioners serving in volatile states. They are suspected to be the first victims of the anticipated changes by the new acting Police boss.
The states are Lagos, Delta, Kogi, Kaduna, Rivers, Bayelsa, Edo, Anambra, Ogun, Oyo, Nasarawa, Benue, Osun, Kano, Ebonyi, Abia, Plateau, Borno and Abuja.
Police sources at the Force Headquarters in Abuja hinted that some of these officers had started carrying out massive arrests of criminals who, hitherto, have been allowed to get away with their nefarious activities.
Their fears emanated from the reputation of the new Police boss as a dogged crime fighter and stickler to excellence in the performance his duties.
This is coupled with revelations that the acting IGP, few minutes after assuming duties, scheduled marathon meetings with his officers, stakeholders and retired IGPs who had proved their mettle while in service. He was also said to have made recommendations on the list of officers expected to work with him.
