Ajaokuta Steel workers embark on indefinite strike

STAFF of the moribund Ajaokuta Steel Company Limited (ASCL), in Kogi State, have embarked on an indefinite strike as the steel company has been locked up.
The staff are protesting against unpaid salaries and allowances, which they claimed have been released to the management of the company by the Federal Government.
Nigerian Tribune gathered that the management, which had earlier agreed to pay the said money, suddenly reneged on its promise.
Chairman of the Iron and Steel Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ISSSAN), Mallam Abdulkareem Jimoh, who confirmed that the workers had been at home, said the management had not been fair to the workers.
The zonal secretary of the Steel and Engineering workers Union of Nigeria, (SEWUN), Comrade Emmanuel Ojo, told the Nigerian Tribune that the matter had been on in the last one year.
