Robbers attack luxury bus, rape students

A luxury bus belonging to Ekenedilichukwu transport company with 42 female students of  a secondary school (name withheld) on board was weekend attacked by a 12-man robbery gang  at Oke-Odo,  along Ore-Shagamu Expressway, Ogun State. Some of the female students were reportedly raped  by the hoodlums.
The students said to be returning  to their parents in Lagos for the Easter holidays, were also reportedly dispossessed of cash, GSM handsets and other valuables which monetary value could not be immediately ascertained.

Report said they left Enugu for Lagos on Saturday morning but the luxury bus developed a mechanical fault which could not be repaired immediately.
Another luxury bus with Number Plate XW  875 LSR was  brought by the transport company to convey the stranded students to Lagos. But by then it was already late in the evening.
However, on reaching Oke-Odo  at about 11.40pm, the gun-wielding  robbers  reportedly intercepted the luxury bus, ordering all passengers to lie down, cooperate or risk losing their lives.
Report also said that the robbers thereafter, hijacked the luxury bus and drove it far inside the bush, where they allegedly gang- raped some of the teenage students and made away with their valuables.
Meanwhile, in Lagos, parents and relatives of the victims became apprehensive after waiting endlessly for their wards. Tension heightened when they got wind of the attack which  made them to pass  the night at the park, waiting for their return.
When the students eventually arrived yesterday morning, parents and relatives wailed at the sight of some of  the blood-stained teenagers.
Some  however, were dazed as they could not find their wards among those that came in. An unconfirmed report however had it that some of the passengers fled while the robbery was going on in Ogun State.
Management of the transport company was said to have immediately rushed most of the victims to the hospital.

Veteran actor Justus Esiri bitter about not getting national award

The veteran actor, who played the Village Head Master, in the popular 80's TV series of the same name, and whose career has spanned over three decades, is not happy that he's yet to receive a national award.
I feel very bitter that of all the progammes I have done, I have not been recommended. While those people who took part in Samanja, New Masquerade, and other Yoruba programmes have been given national awards.
I think he's right to be bitter. If Aki and Paw Paw, Stephanie Okereke and Genevieve can get national awards, he more than deserves to get one too. In fact, it's long over due!

Delta State commissioner for health accused of slapping a nurse

The Delta State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joseph Otumara, has been accused of slapping a female nurse, Mrs. Akata Oghenero, at the Central Hospital in Warri, during a visit to the hospital last week.

The incident happened in the gynecologist ward of the Hospital in the presence of many nurses and officials of the Ministry of Health, Asaba. And he supposedly slapped her because she was receiving a phone call instead of standing up to greet him.

The commissioner has since denied slapping the nurse, saying that he only tried to stop her from making calls with her phone while work was going on during his visit to the hospital on March 29

Meanwhile the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives, NANNM, in the state is spoiling for a showdown over the matter and Forum for Justice and Human Rights Defence, FJHD, in Delta State, has demanded that the commissioner tender an unreserved apology to the nurse or resign his appointment.

Tonto Dikeh dishes on marriage plans and other issues.

Tonto Dikeh, beautiful and a well toned skin Nollywood actress, in a recent interview dishes on marriage plans and other issues.

I think irrespective of your profession you can keep a healthy relationship or marriage. Being a star does not limit the happiness you get from them, it depends on the way you carry it or handle it. But if you ask me, I would tell you, it contributes a lot to a large percentage of broken home, because you are famous, and probably the person is not famous. Maybe because she stays out late, because of her work, she travels so much, all these can actually bring strains to the marriage or relationship. Like I would always say, marriage is an institution where you have to learn, you have to sacrifice to do a lot of things. You have to come to an agreement with your partner. But all the same, you can be a celebrity and have a healthy marriage.

For now, I have no plans for marriage, I just concentrate on my work, do the best that I can do and make myself happy, along the line, that could come in, for now, it is not what I am looking forward to.

Talking about having a child early, I just see a lot of my friends these days and they have kids and the kids are almost half their heights, strolling and shopping together, it is a cute idea, but that is not a mistake, and it is just the only thing I just regret.

It doesn’t mean I am scared, not being ready is not being scared. I wish I have one (baby), so I could stroll with the baby right now.

When asked, What do you think is the cause of breakups of Nollywood marriages; she said Lack of good communication and commitment are what kills a relationship. You need good talking relationship and understanding. At the end of the day, that is one thing, good communication, if I cannot relate to you and you cannot relate with me, if I cannot pass my message to you, if I cannot tell you the reason I have to go and shoot, and if you cannot give me a good reason I cannot go and shoot, then things won’t be easy. So, I feel communication is like a rope that ties two people in a relationship.
