Coalition Against Corrupt Leaders, CACOL, has condemned the snail
speed at which Julius Berger was undertaking repair of dilapidated
Apapa-Oshodi expressway, in Lagos.
The group noted that the construction company was deliberately making
life difficult for road users, by the way it was handling the
construction work.
It also faulted the Federal and Lagos State Governments for
abandoning the road, until it became a source of misery for Lagosians.
Chairman of CACOL, Mr Debo Adeniran, berated Julius Berger for
displaying unseriousness towards the road, which leads to the nation’s
busiest seaport, adding that while the construction company was supposed
to work 24 hours on the road, and mostly at night, as is the practice
in developed societies, it chose to work during the day and when traffic
is heaviest.
Adeniran said, “the unmotorable state of most link roads on
Oshodi/Apapa expressway, made the exit routs difficult from the
expressway, thereby congesting the road with so much vehicles, which
exert too much pressure on the road, resulting in the worn out state of
the expressway.”

Terrorism is a global phenomenon. We are very much aware of what happened in England during the IRA uprising. We are doing all we can to bring the issue to an end. The issue of Boko Haram that we are experiencing today in Nigeria is nothing new globally. Most countries of the world had experienced terrorist attacks in their long history. These are temporary challenges we have and definitely we shall get over it.
“Let me reassure Nigerians and indeed the world in general that even with the limited technology we have, the Nigerian security agencies have done well. Look at the October 1, 2010 bombing experience, all the people that were involved have been arrested and prosecuted. Most of the countries that are more sophisticated that us have done nothing to that stage.
“Yes we have the Boko Haram challenge now, but just like other terrorist attacks in other parts of the globe, we are working on it. It is not as if the security services and the government are not doing anything about the situation, we are working round the clock to bring the issue under control. The challenge is only a temporary setback and we shall get over it,”

Borno election tribunal dissolved on judgment day •Tension in Kwara as Ahmed, Belgore know fate today
THERE was palpable suspense, on Thursday, as the acting president of
the Court of Appeal, Justice Dalhatu Adamu, dissolved the Borno State
governorship election petitions tribunal a few minutes before the panel
would deliver judgment in the petition brought by the Peoples Democratic
Party (PDP) and its standard-bearer, Mohammed Goni, challenging the
victory of Governor Kashim Shettima of the All Nigeria People’s Party
(ANPP) in the April 26 governorship election.
The panel was billed to deliver judgment in the petition on Thursday, as its duration expires on Sunday, going by the 2010 Electoral Act (as amended).
The Zone Two Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, venue of the tribunal was filled to capacity with supporters and party faithful who had arrived as early as 7.00 a.m. waiting to know who would carry the day.
All counsel in the matter, as well as journalists, were already seated, awaiting the arrival of members of the panel, when the secretary of the panel came in to announce the dissolution.
According to him,” I have been directed by the registrar of the Court of Appeal to inform you that this tribunal has been dissolved and so will not be sitting today. We shall all wait for further directives.”
All efforts to get the acting president of the Court of Appeal for more information on why the tribunal was dissolved were unsuccessful, as he was said to be too busy to attend to anybody when Nigerian Tribune visited his office.
The Supreme Court had, last Monday, vacated an interim order made by the Court of Appeal sitting in Jos, restraining the tribunal from delivering judgment in the petition filed by the PDP and Goni.
The Court of Appeal made the order as requested by the petitioners, who were denied same by the tribunal.
In another development, apprehension and anxiety have enveloped Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, as the governorship election petitions tribunal sitting in Ilorin delivers judgment in the case between Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed and the candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Dele Belgore today.
Armoured vehicles have started patrolling major roads and streets since the beginning of the week, to ensure security, while plain-clothes security men had been drafted to provide information on security.
It was also gathered that schools located around the venue of the tribunal sitting had been directed to go on forced holiday today, as part of measures to ensure adequate security.

Bayelsa State caucus of NASS writes PDP, wants Sylva cleared
THE Bayelsa State caucus of the National Assembly (NASS) has written
to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), demanding that the state
governor, Timipre Sylva, be allowed to contest the gubernatorial primary
of the party in the state because he had already been screened and
cleared.In a letter dated November 9, 2011, which was addressed to the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party, the caucus claimed that the governor, legally speaking, had been cleared and qualified to contest in the primary election.
The caucus held that anything short of this would be a violation of the supremacy of the constitution of the party.
The caucus stated that subjecting Sylva to any further scrutiny by the NWC was “illegal, manifestly at variance with the PDP constitution and the Electoral Guidelines for Primary Elections 2010 and therefore null and void.”
It argued that the uncertainty being created in the state was causing confusion and therefore demanded “with all sense of responsibility” that Sylva and all other aspirants screened and cleared by the Gubernatorial Screening Committee and the Gubernatorial Screening Appeal Panel should be allowed to contest the primary election in line with the tenets of democracy and the rule of law.
