Queen Nwokoye Speaks On Why Actresses Live Flamboyant Lives Than Actors

Queen Nwokoye
Answering a question on why actresses live more flamboyant lives than their male counterparts, the Nollywood actress, Queen Nwokoye disagreed that the women and men in the make believe world share same status.
“I do not agree that actresses live more flamboyant lives than actors; it is not true. But it looks like that because the men have families to cater for as the bread winners of their homes. They pay school fees and house rents when a single actress will use all that money to buy a car or so. In that case, she would be seen as living a more flamboyant live.
That does not mean she makes more money than her male counterparts. When you check, almost all our actors are married with kids and having home responsibilities to attend to. But a lot of actresses are married to guys that can take care of them and whatever they make is an extra income for them to live flamboyant lives. That is how I see it.”

Fayose confident of winning 2014 gov poll

Former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose

Former Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State on Friday officially declared his intention to contest the 2014 governorship election while expressing the confidence that he would win.
Fayose, speaking at the declaration ceremony done beside the Peoples Democratic Party Secretariat on Ajilosun Road, said he was sure of winning the party’s ticket if all PDP aspirants were given a level playing ground at the primaries.
He said he stood a better chance in the election because the people of the state were tired of the Action Congress of Nigeria’s administration.
The declaration caused a traffic jam as security agents struggled to control vehicular movement at the well-attended ceremony.
Fayose warned against imposition, saying the PDP was sent to the background because of the problems arising from previous cases of imposition.

JTF, others on red alert over MEND’s threat

Members of JTF, Operation Pulo Shield 01

There were indications on Friday   that military formations in the Niger Delta have been placed on red alert over threats by the Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta to resume attacks on oil installations.
MEND’s spokesman, Gbomo Jomo, had in an email to journalists on Wednesday said the militant group would resume a series of attacks, codenamed Hurricane Exodus at midnight on Friday.
MEND said the attacks would be “a direct repercussion of a forged threat letter contrived by the Nigerian and South African governments purporting to have originated from MEND.
“This fake letter was used as evidence against Henry Okah on whom a 13-year sentence was passed. We are now determined to conjure this imaginary trumped-up threat into a painful reality.”
But our correspondent learnt that military formations in the state especially the Joint Task Force, codenamed Operation Pulo Shield were rattled by the threats.

‘Police have highest number of dismissed officers’

Police-M.D-Abubakar

The Nigeria Police Force Pioneer Chaplains have said that the police have the highest number of dismissed officers in the civil service because the organisation did not condone corruption and indiscipline among its personnel.
It stated that the issue of corruption in the police was not institutional, but societal and personal, insisting that corruption was a Nigerian problem and not a police issue as widely believed.
The Force Chaplain, Rev. Fr. Raphael Fagbohun, who said this at a news briefing to mark the 7th anniversary of the chaplaincy in Abuja on Thursday, pointed out that the problem of Nigeria was political tribalism and false religiosity, which he said the chaplaincy was dealing with to ensure that the vices did not destroy the spiritual growth of police officers.

North fears al-Qaeda may scuttle amnesty for Boko Haram

boko haram

THERE are fears in the North that hardliners in the Boko Haram Islamic sect may be influenced by al-Qaeda to frustrate the planned Federal Government amnesty, just as anxiety is mounting over whether the amnesty will also cover the Ansaru Islam insurgents who operate across Cameroon, Nigeria, Chad and Niger Republic.
Northern leaders have in the past 48 hours been making contacts on how to ensure that the rampaging sect does not disgrace them by refusing to cease hostilities even after the amnesty.
Chats by Saturday Tribune with some key leaders from the North on Friday confirmed that the region is anxious for the insurgents to accept the offer, when it is eventually made, as refusing it may further weaken the zone and give the president further political capital in the run-up to the 2015 election.
A leader from Kano, who spoke in confidence, noted: “We are eager and very optimistic that the militants will accept. We are on trial with this amnesty, and our (hope) is that the sect will listen to us and not their alleged affiliates in al-Qaeda.”

Gambian president warns homosexuals to stay away from the country or regret being born

Gambian president, Yahya Jammeh, has warned that any gay or lesbians found in the country will "regret" being born. During a speech on March 28th at the opening of the country’s parliament, President Jammeh said:
Homosexuality is anti-humanity. I have never seen homosexual chicken, or turkey. If you are convicted of homosexuality in this country, there will be no mercy for offenders.
Homosexuality is anti-god, anti-human, and anti-civilization. Homosexuals are not welcome in the Gambia. If we catch you, you will regret why you are born. I have buffalos from South Africa and Brazil and they never date each other. We are ready to eat grass but we will not compromise on this. Allowing homosexuality means allowing satanic rights. We will not allow gays here.

2015: North rejects Jonathan as sole PDP aspirant

President Goodluck Jonathan

The North has opposed to the plan by the leadership of the People Democratic Party to choose President Goodluck Jonathan as the sole aspirant for its presidential primaries.
The Arewa Consultative Forum and the Coalition of Northern Politicians, Academics, Professionals and Businessmen, described the move as undemocratic, stating that it could lead to chaos and collapse of the party.

The spokesman of the ACF, Anthony Sani, said that the North was opposed to the move because it would limit the choice of Nigerians during the election.
He however, added that PDP does not have the final say as to who becomes president in 2015.
He said, “I am not aware of this kind of move by the ruling PDP. But I want to say such practices, if allowed, would limit the democratic space by reducing the choice of candidate. As a result, members of the ruling party’s right to participate in the choice of their presidential candidate will be short changed. Nigerians’ choice will also be limited.
“It is to be noted that even in America, when candidacy is conceded to the incumbent, it is not forced but brought about by consensus by members of the ruling party. And that was why Senator Kennedy was not barred from contesting the primaries with President Jimmy Carter in the early 80s. The practices of limiting candidacy to incumbency cannot promote democracy that is premised on triple foundation of liberty, justice and common decency.
“When you talk about effect of such development on the aspiration of the North to vie for the presidency in 2015, you at once convey an impression that the primaries in PDP is final. Nigerians can still make judicious use of their democratic rights and vote candidates in some other parties, more so in a clime where most of the political parties are mere clones of one another in terms of their approach to solving the myriad of problems of Nigeria.”
Sani advised Nigerians not to let such action by the PDP result to chaos in the country.
“Nigerians should not allow the actions of a few or of a party to determine how they think, what they say and what they do. Nigerians should shape events, and not allow events to shape us. There is no need for chaos, since voters have the final say. Instead of causing any chaos, voters should make judicious use of their democratic rights and vote leaders of their choice,” he added.
Sani added that it was too early to determine if the North will look in the direction of the All Progressives Congress to actualise it’s aspiration for presidency in 2015.
On the one-term agreement northern governors allegedly signed with Jonathan, Sani said, “I have said agreements (whether signed or not) and court cases do not produce presidents in a democracy. Only Nigerian voters can produce the president. Somehow, I believe that  both the controversy about agreement and court cases have been brought into the open for a higher cause. Nigerians deserve leaders they can rely upon to deliver on their promises.
“Though northerners aspire to be president in 2015, they would do so democratically, and not undemocratically. So the question of forcing northerners into one political party does not arise. They do not have to be in one party in order to make their votes count.”
On his part, the convener of CNPAPB, Dr. Junaid Mohammed, said imposing Jonathan as the sole aspirant in PDP would tear the country apart.
“Let them try it. If they try it, let us see what will happen. The second term governors are not the only ones aspiring to be president. Let PDP become an automatic consensus candidate party, and let’s see how the party survives. That will lead to a collapse of PDP and that is the best possible outcome for the country.
“If they do that, there will be reaction and the reaction will not be only from the rest of the country, but also from the international community. This because the  international community will not want to pay the price of Nigeria breaking down, because they will not want to bring their marines here to stop us from tearing ourselves apart,” he stated.

NAFDAC worries over substandard herbal products

nafdac

National Agency for Food and Drug Administrati0n and Control has expressed serious concerns over the prevalence of substandard herbs in Nigeria.
At a stakeholders meeting in Lagos on Wednesday, Director-General of NAFDAC, Dr. Paul Orhii, called for the total overhaul of both unregistered and substandard herbal drugs in the market.
Orhii, while noting that herbal supplements could be beneficial to the body, it could pose some threats and cause potential damage to the body.
The meeting, Orhii noted, became imperative after due consultation with the Federal Ministry of Health in collaboration with the National Institute for Pharmaceutical Research and Development, the University of Lagos and Obafemi Awolowo University.
Orhii added, “Today, we have come together to reiterate the importance and place of herbal medicines in our healthcare system.
“While acknowledging this very crucial sector, we must hasten to add that there is need to be sanity and due diligence in the way information is placed before the public, so they get the correct message and charlatans are weeded off this chain.”

NECO workers, others protest planned scrapping of agency

Rufa’I

Workers at the Minna, Niger State headquarters of the National Examination Council, on Thursday, appealed to the Federal Government not to scrap the examination body.
When our correspondent visited the NECO headquarters, the tensed workers were seen discussing the fate that would befall them if the policy was implemented.
The Federal Government, it was reported on Wednesday, had decided to implement the recomemndations of the Oronsaye-Panel that listed NECO among 38 federal agencies that would be scrapped or merged with others. Though the Federal Government had not confirmed or denied the planned action, there was palpable tension in NECO on Thursday.

Merger: Fresh crisis looms in AP

National Publicity Secretary of the Action Congress of Nigeria, Mr. Lai Mohammed
A fresh crisis may soon rock the All Progressives Congress as  a splinter group in  the All Nigeria Peoples Party is seeking a halt to the merger and registration of the APC.
The  ANPP is one of the three main opposition parties spearheading the formation  of APC to  defeat the ruling Peoples Democratic Party in the 2015 elections. The others are  the Action Congress of Nigeria and  the Congress for Progressive Change.
Until last week, the  ownership of the acronym, APC, had been a subject of controversy between the All Progressives Congress, the African Peoples Congress and the All Patriotic Citizens.
The All Patriotic Citizens dropped its name, while the Independent National Electoral Commission declined to register the African Peoples Congress which hitherto  insisted on its name and  the acronym.
The opposition parties had  separately and collectively accused the PDP of sponsoring those behind the parties contending  the APC acronym.

The labour crisis rocking Aerocontractors Airlines is far from over as the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority has restricted the embattled carrier to operating only three out of its nine operational aircraft.
Aero has about 14 aircraft in its fleet but only nine are currently in operation.
Investigations by our correspondent revealed that rather operating all the nine functional planes in its fleet, the crisis-ridden airline had been operating only three aircraft since its resumed operations about six days ago.
Findings revealed that the aviation industry regulator, NCAA, directed Aero to operate only three aircraft after its audit of the airline’s operation showed that it had capacity to operate only three planes following the resumption of operations.

Boko Haram: Jonathan sets up panel on amnesty

Jonathan-and-Sultan

President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday set up a committee to consider the propriety or otherwise of granting amnesty to members of the violent Islamic sect, Boko Haram.
It was gathered that the committee, whose names of members had yet to be released, was set up during a meeting the President held with security chiefs. It has two weeks to prepare its report and it will work with the office of the National Security Adviser.
The committee, apparently to assuage the agitators for amnesty for Boko Haram, according to sources in the Villa, has three terms of reference, viz: to consider the propriety or otherwise of granting amnesty to the violent sect; collate request arising from the different groups asking the Federal Government for amnesty for Boko Haram; and recommend the modalities for granting amnesty in case it becomes imperative.
Minister of Information, Labaran Maku, had on Wednesday said Jonathan was seriously considering granting the sect members a pardon, notwithstanding the President’s declaration in Yobe State recently that he would not grant amnesty to those he described as “ghosts.”

NFF wades into Keshi-Yobo face-off

Coach Stephen Keshi and Captain Joseph Yobo.
Nigeria football boss Aminu Maigari has ordered an end to a face-off between the country’s coach Stephen Keshi and his captain Joseph Yobo.
An unhealthy exchange of words between the two principal characters in the Nigeria squad has dominated the media in the past few days, as Yobo has expressed unhappiness with Keshi over his exclusion from last month’s World Cup qualifier against Kenya in Calabar.
“This is a highly untoward development and the NFF and entire Nigeria football family are disturbed. Less than two months ago, we lifted the Africa Cup of Nations in a blaze of glory, and this was made possible by hard-work and team-work in an atmosphere of peace, unity and tranquillity,” said Maigari.

“The recent exchange of words between coach Keshi and captain Yobo is worrisome, at a time that we have so many important matches and a major competition (FIFA Confederations Cup Brazil 2013) ahead of us.
“I have therefore ordered the chairman of the technical committee and his members to immediately intervene and restore sanity.”
The NFF president also cautioned the nation’s vibrant media against over-sensationalism with regards to the Keshi, Yobo issue.

Jonathan, others will go through primaries –PDP

President Goodluck Jonathan

The Peoples Democratic Party, on Wednesday,  said that there was no move to amend its constitution to pave the way for President Goodluck Jonathan  and second term governors as the sole aspirants of the party at the 2015 primaries.
The National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Chief Olisah Metuh, who stated this at a news conference in Abuja, said all aspirants of the party would go through the primaries.
Metuh commented on the alleged discreet move by the party’s National Executive Committee to amend the constitution to enable  the  President  and second term governors to have the right of first refusal as it is being done in the United States.
In the US, political parties give incumbent president and governors-automatic tickets if they want to re-contest.
The ticket will only be thrown open  if the incumbent does not want to re-contest.

Boko Haram is your baby, Buhari fires back at Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan and Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd)

ABUJA—Former Head of State, General Muhammadu Buhari, yesterday, slammed President Goodluck Jonathan, describing the virulent sect, Boko Haram, as a creation of the present administration.
President Jonathan, through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs, Dr Doyin Okupe had on Tuesday challenged General Buhari to persuade members of the sect to accept dialogue as a means of ending the orgy of violence in the North.
General Buhari, who apparently was angered by the Presidency’s attempt to link him with the sect, asked Jonathan to leave him alone and find ways of resolving the Boko Haram crisis, which he said, was borne out of the failure of his government.
Buhari, who fired back at Jonathan through the National Publicity Secretary of the Congress for Progressive Change, CPC, Mr. Rotimi Fashakin, noted that it was wrong for the Presidency to accuse him of not calling Boko Haram to order when he did not have any relationship with the members.
He also faulted Okupe, for referring to Buhari’s presidential ambition as inordinate, saying that the attack was ill-motivated.

“Nigeria is under attack and these people attack churches, mosque, market places, schools, and even telecom facilities, it is not attributed to any part of the country, tribe or faith alone.
“It is an evil that we must all challenge, don’t give it any other name other than evil, as a big party, I am calling on leaders of all the political parties, and this is not politics,CPC, ACN, and all other political parties to come together to fight this evil,” Mr. Tukur said.

She said: ‘I am very concerned, the world is very concerned. What is very heartbreaking is when Syrian people ask you why you think no one is able to find a solution for them.
‘What they described on the ground, hearing it from them is so horrific. When you meet so many innocent people and civilians, the people of Syria are asking who is on their side, ‘Who is going to help us as the months go on?

The Obama Daughters Dressed For Easter and More Pictures

Malia and Sasha seem to be both at that phase where they're growing taller everyday. Malia is taller than President Obama and Michelle, and her sister whom I thought would be of more average height, has shot up since the inauraguration, just two months ago.

For Easter, both girls attended church with their parents, and everyone is buzzing about their appearance. I think they look great, and I just love the whole family together even more.

Jonathan made the promise in Enugu on Monday at the dedication/hand-over ceremony of the All Saints Anglican Church, Mpu, in Aninri Local Government Area, built by the Deputy Senate President, Sen. Ike Ekweremadu.
Jonathan explained that good governance was anchored on free, fair and credible elections, adding that political leadership was transient.
“We should think more of our country, think more of building a society that our children will be happy about. I believe that no leader can do everything for the society but you think about some key things and do those ones very well.

Our problems with Tukur, by PDP NEC members

PDP Chairman, Bamanga Tukur
PDP Chairman, Bamanga Tukur

MEMBERS of the National Executive Committee, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, are inching towards a confrontation with the national chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, over the multiple crises facing his stewardship of the party.
Central to the anger of the party officials is the increasing perception that he is using his office to achieve personal political interests. Remarkably, while Tukur is alleged to be still supportive of the political aspirations of President Goodluck Jonathan ahead of the 2015 presidential election, the president is, however, now said to be under serious pressure to dump the national chairman on the strength of the heavy baggage the 12 month stewardship of Tukur is said to have put on him.
Besides, Tukur is alleged to have allowed a battalion of personal aides to distract him having created the highest number of offices for aides of the national chairman in the history of the PDP. Also infuriating to party officials especially members of the National Working Committee, NWC was the national chairman’s decision to recognize the state executive committee of the party in Adamawa led by Mr. Joel Madaki against the decision of the NWC to confer recognition on the faction led by Alhaji Umar Kugama.

IG orders arrest of policemen in camouflage

police4

Inspector-General of Police Mohammed Abubakar has allegedly ordered the arrest of policemen caught wearing their new camouflage all over the country.
The directive is said to be in response to a petition written against Abubakar to the Presidency concerning the sale of the camouflage.
Police source said on the condition of anonymity that violators were being arrested by the IG’s monitoring team and taken to Abuja.
The source said, “This incident began sometime last month when some concerned policemen wrote a petition to the Presidency concerning the sale of these camouflage uniforms. The camouflage, which is available at all police stores nationwide, were being sold at either N10,000 or N15,000 and then sewn for N5,000.
“Normally when there is a new uniform, a set ought to be issued to every policeman free of charge. As a matter of fact, the Federal Government, last year, approved new camouflage uniforms not just for the police but also for the navy and army. While the military has gone ahead to issue these uniforms to their men, the NPF has yet to do same.”

Fresh facts have emerged on the genesis of the sour relationship between the ArchBishop of the Catholic Cathedral, Abuja, Cardinal John Onaiyekan, and the Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor-led Christian Association of Nigeria, indicating that the development may have had its root in the CAN’s election held in 2010.
According to Onaiyekan, the issues over which the Catholic Church had threatened to pull out of CAN “are being addressed right now.”
Onaiyekan, in an interview with The PUNCH, admitted that even after losing the election, he congratulated his opponent and wished him well.
When his reaction was sought on the interpretations being given by a lot of people, especially with regards to the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria and CAN elections, Onaiyekan said people had made different interpretations of events after the election.

Selective prosecution of subsidy thieves, a deceit —NLC

President of the NLC, Mr. Abdulwahed Omar
President, Nigeria Labour Congress, Abduwaheed Omar, has berated the Federal Government for shielding major oil subsidy thieves from prosecution.
He described the prosecution of “a few minor subsidy thieves” as a deceit, saying the Federal Government was only pretending to be fighting corruption.
Omar spoke in Ado Ekiti on Saturday during a visit to the state.
The NLC President, who said it was sad that those, who diverted the major part of the N1.3tn subsidy funds, were not in court, described the prosecution of the minor thieves as a “shoddy job”.
Omar said, “The labour is dissatisfied with the way the alleged looters were being prosecuted.  When you talk of punishment of these looters, we mean the major actors. Those, who took the larger chunk of the N1.3tn oil subsidy money. They have to be punished to show that Nigeria is a serious country.”
He also warned the FG to drop the proposed plan to remove subsidy, saying Nigerians would resist it.

Jonathan, however, made a joke of the situation, saying the power was deliberately put out in order to remind him of the urgent need to tackle the problem in the country.
