Kano blasts meant to cause another civil war, say Emir of Kano, NLC

kano-blast-5

The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero and the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, have declared that the motive behind last Monday’s bomb attack on a motor park in Kano which claimed the lives of more that 75 passengers was to cause another civil war even as the Federal Government warned that it will no longer tolerate wanton destruction of lives and property in the country.
This was even as traditional rulers in the South East geopolitical zone, yesterday, in Enugu, urged Igbo to remain calm over the  bombing which claimed the lives of many people from the area.
The Ohanaeze Ndigbo had said on Wednesday that it could no longer guarantee the response of its people to the continued killings of Ndigbo in some northern states.
The NLC and Emir spoke at separate occasions in Kano and Abuja respectively.

Our Daily Manna Publisher, Rev. Dr Chris Kwakpowe, who was recently presented in the media as being involved in an illicit affair with a lady purported to be his secretary, has actually been lawfully and happily wedded to the lady in question for 13 solid years. The union between the shepherd of The Manna Prayer Mountain Ministry and Flora (Nee Igugu) was legalized on June 30, 2000, at the Ughelli North Local Government Registry (Delta State), a few months after traditional engagement in 1999.

Information from reliable sources indicates that Dr Chris, a pharmacist with a degree from the University of Ife, now Obafemi Awolowo University, Osun State, has been pinpointed for a highly orchestrated blackmail. And in the last few years, those who have vowed to bring him down because of his rising profile, especially due to the success that his quarterly publication, Our Daily Manna, have engaged in high level plot aimed at tarnishing his hard earned reputation.
A very reliable source (a pastor) confirmed to us “Before Our Daily Manna started in 2001; no one looked the way of Dr. Chris. He was neglected totally and abandoned by all. But because of the success story of his publication and ministry, they are coming after him now.”

Emeka Ike, the former president, Actor Guild of Nigeria, has stated categorically that he does not support any plan to legalise gay marriage in Nigeria, as it is against God’s will.

The Nollywood actor, who is on a self-imposed sabbatical from the movie industry, was responding to questions at Vchannel Celebrity Night Out at Troy Lounge in Lagos recently where he was said to have made an utterance in support of the ungodly act.

“Knowing our penchant for ‘copying’ others I want to plead with Nigerians not to encourage same sex marriage. I don’t hate gay but I don’t support gay marriage either. God does not want it, our culture forbids it. We should not encourage what is not right. This is about defending whatever is left of our culture. Nigeria should not go the way of UK, we are people of culture. I want our legislators to stick to their guns and not legalise what will be eroding our culture and make us godless people,” he explained.

Tinubu backs amnesty for Boko Haram, they are not ghosts

Tinubu

Former Lagos State Governor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, on Thursday in Kano called for the granting of amnesty to Boko Haram militants, insisting that they are not ghosts as alleged by President Goodluck Jonathan.
Tinubu, the National Leader of Action Congress of Nigeria, who was in Kano to commiserate with the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero, over the attack on him and his convoy recently, explained that the amnesty must be based on justice, particularly for those with no blood stains on their hands.
He however said those involved in criminal activities among them must be made to face justice.
He said, “For the innocent ones among them, there must be amnesty. We cannot fight a war in our own country against minor crimes and minor people. We would only end up multiplying these people by trying to use force against our own citizens.

2015: Jonathan can’t be PDP’s sole candidate, says Atiku

GEJ-Atiku-OBJ obasanjo atiku jonathan

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has vowed to resist any attempt to foist President Goodluck Jonathan on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the sole candidate in 2015.
Atiku, who has declared his intention to seek the PDP ticket ahead of the 2015 polls, spoke in Kano yesterday. He was reacting to alleged surreptitious moves to amend the PDP Constitution to pave the way for Jonathan’s sole candidacy.
Elder statesman and Ijaw leader Chief Edwin Clark, in a letter to Niger State Governor Babangida,Aliyu, which he read to reporters in Abuja last week, said there was nothing wrong with a Jonathan sole candidacy.
He said the practice in democratic presidential system of government is that “an incumbent President remains the sole candidate of a political party at the party’s convention, if he or she is willing to contest for a second term in office”.
The former minister said it was the practice in the United States from where Nigeria copied its presidential system for the incumbent President to automatically get his party’s ticket.

Nigerians condemn Good Governance Tour as waste of resources

Abuja_City_Gate

Nigerians have condemned the Labaran Maku-led Nigeria Good Governance Tour, describing it as a total waste of public funds and time.
About three in five Nigerians, 55 per cent of the 406 respondents that participated in the a PREMIUM TIMES poll, said the tour, led by the Information Minister, was absolutely unnecessary and a waste of public resources.
Another three in ten respondents, 32 per cent, said the tour was a scam and should be sanctioned, with officials investigated for their roles in it.
However, it was not all negative feedback as about 13 per cent of respondents said the tour was necessary. About half of this figure, seven per cent, said the tour was necessary and Nigeria needs more of such; six per cent agreed that the tour was essential for Nigeria but believed the officials had it rolled out as a decoy to steal public funds; while one percent of the respondents said the tour was good but poorly timed.

Release SURE-P Buses For The People – Oyo PDP Tells ACN Government

Abiola Ajimobi

Oyo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on the governor of the state, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, to release the 100 units of mass transit buses donated to the state under the subsidy removal relief programme of President Goodluck Jonathan.
This was made known in a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Mr Lukman Agboluaje, and made available to newsmen on Sunday. In the statement, the PDP decried the non-release of the buses for the use of the masses in the state, more than eight months after the state government took delivery of the buses.
The release added that, rather than the state government deploying the buses to ease the transportation problems of the people of the state, the government re-painted the buses and replaced the “Federal Government Assisted Mass Transit” inscription on the buses with “Ajumose Pace-Setter Mass Transit Service.” The party condemned the decision of the state government, saying it was done with the “sinister intention of claiming the Federal Government product as its own initiative and consequently illicitly attempting to claim its glory.”
It will be recalled that the Federal Government had procured and distributed over 1,600 buses to state governments to cushion the effects of the removal of subsidy from petrol in 2012, out of which about 100 were given to Oyo State.

Things you should understand before buying a car

Beyond how cool a vehicle looks, auto experts say there are many other things to consider before getting a new car, SIMON EJEMBI writes.
Just like mobile phones, many people buy cars with functionalities they know nothing about. Similarly, many people go for cars just because someone else has the same type of car. According to auto experts, many people end up purchasing vehicles that are not suited to them, their environment and their lifestyle because they failed to ask the right questions and to understand certain basic things about cars.
“You don’t buy a car or vehicle just because you saw somebody buying it,” says the Managing Consultant, Newsletters Limited, Lagos, Dr. Oscar Odiboh.
According to him, it is imperative for people who want to buy cars to understand the:
Utility value
“You need to know the purpose that the car will serve for you,” he says. He explains that the first thing to understand in buying a car is the utility importance it has for you. He stresses that it is important to know the extra values that are in it and how to use them. It is not wise for you to say ‘Oh! I love that man’s Bentley’ and then you look for money and buy a Bentley.

Northern socio-political group, the Arewa Consultative Forum, has described the bomb blasts in Kano as shocking.
The group, in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Anthony Sani, on Monday said the attack was uncalled for.
It stated, “The attacks at the New Road, Kano Motor Park, Sabon Gari, today is shocking and uncalled, for, considering the pleas by Nigerians and governments that those engaged in violent killings for purpose of addressing their concerns should lay their arms and embrace constructive dialogue.
On his part, a civil rights activist, Mallam Shehu Sani, said the blast was a sign that government was incapable of protecting the lives and property of its citizens.

Senators are worse than robbers –Suspects

The suspects.
A  security guard with Honda Place Company, who was recently arrested by the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly conniving with robbers to steal goods worth over N28m from the company, has said the police should stop going after petty thieves like himself.
Instead, he said the police should focus their attention on politicians, especially senators and House members, whom he described as the “real thieves.”
The suspect, Garba Sani, complained that the N12, 000 he received as salary was too meagre and said he had no choice but to take to crime.
He said, “I’m not an armed robber. I was on duty and I called them (other suspects) and we took the goods. We did not carry guns. We have a lot of senators looting and we also need money. There are many thieves in Nigeria and most of us are jobless youths, we have nothing.

Pension thief, Yusuf, gets N10m bail

Mr. John Yusuf

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission dragged him before the court on January 30 over fresh four counts of non-disclosure of assets.
Yusuf, who, on January 28, 2013, was fined N750, 000 for conniving with others to defraud the Police Pension Office of N27.2bn, had been in custody since his arraignment.
The ruling on the bail application, initially fixed for March 11, 2013, was cancelled following the strike embarked upon by the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria.
However, Justice Adamu Bello, who granted Yusuf bail on Monday, noted that the court would impose conditions that would make it difficult for the pension thief to jump bail.
He therefore granted him bail in the sum of N10m and a “reliable” surety in like sum.
The court ordered that the surety must be a public servant, who is not below the rank of a director.
The surety must also have a landed property in the Federal Capital Territory, and the said property must not be less than the bail sum.

Scene of the Kano bomb blasts in Sabon-Gari, Kano ... on Monday.
Monday  was  yet another bloody day in Kano as  over 30 passengers, drivers and visitors  lost their lives to explosions at an inter-state  luxury bus park in the city.
Hours before the  blasts, an Islamic militant group, Boko Haram members laid siege to some schools in Maiduguri,  Borno State, killing  four  teachers and injuring several others, including pupils.
The cause of the  Kano explosions which President Goodluck Jonathan described as barbaric, was uncertain as of 8pm on Monday. While some eyewitnesses attributed  it   to improvised explosive devices  planted in a luxury bus in the ever-busy park, others  said  it was  carried out by three suicide bombers.
They were however, in agreement that the  explosions also left many injured and  some  buses destroyed in the park located in the  Sabon Gari, an area mostly inhabited by non-indigenes.

We didn’t walk out on Tukur – Uduaghan, Amaechi

Rotimi Amaechi-Tukur

Peoples Democratic Party,PDP, yesterday, rebuffed insinuations of a fresh division in the ranks of its governors, describing as grossly untrue reports that two of its governors walked out on the national chairman during a stakeholders meeting in Port-Harcourt, weekend.
The party’s claim came as the two governors, Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta State and Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State, besides denying the reports, pledged loyalty and commitment to the Bamanga Tukur-led national executive of the party. Amaechi specifically faulted mischief makers for initiating the reports.
Ameachi, who refuted the allegation while fielding questions from newsmen at the end of the 2013 Founders’ Day Lecture at the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies, NAILS, in Abuja yesterday, said there was no truth that he stormed out of the meeting alongside Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan.
