Most times when men get married to women older than them, the tendency is that the women often grow out of the men's control overtime. In some cases, these woman start taking actions as the ones in-charge of their homes, thus disregarding their younger husbands.

On Friday, a 48-yrear-old man, Gbenga Awoyode revealed details of how his 52-year-old wife, Raliat was caught in the act with a Pastor inside a hotel in Lagos.

Mr. Awoyode, speaking before an Alagbado Grade A Customary Court, disclosed that his wife no longer have respect for him again, saying the night duties he does at Yaba College of Technology, Lagos provided his wife ample opportunity to engage in illicit sex with men in their neighborhood.

We’ll hand over B’ Haram suspects to ICC –Presidency

The Federal Government has said it will hand over arrested members of the Boko Haram sect to the International Criminal Court located at The Hague, Netherlands, for prosecution.

The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, who made the Presidency’s position known in an exclusive interview with Saturday PUNCH on Thursday, however, said the sect members would only be handed over to the ICC based on request.

He explained that the Federal Government had yet to receive such a request from the court.

The Defence Headquarters last week said it had over 1,000 Boko Haram suspects in its custody.

This revelation was made shortly after the Chief Prosecutor of ICC, Fatou Bensouda, said there was a reason to believe that crimes against humanity had been committed in Nigeria by the militant group. She identified the crimes committed by the group as murder and persecution.

Okagbare wins 200m bronze

Blessing Okagbare bounced back from her women’s 100 metres disappointment to win bronze in the women’s 200m event on Friday, making it two medals for Nigeria at the IAAF World Championships in Moscow.

She had won silver in the women’s long jump on Sunday with her 6.99m leap, ending Nigeria’s 14-year dry run at the competition.

In a race dominated by Jamaica’s Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce in 22.17secs, Okagbare and Ivory Coast’s Murielle Ahoure had a photo finish in 22.32secs, but the Ivorian was eventually awarded the silver. The photo revealed Okagbare was beaten in six thousandths of a second.

It was the second time Okagbare would finish behind Fraser-Pryce whom she had beaten in the 100m at the London Anniversary Games last month. The Jamaican won the bronze in the women’s 100m dash in Moscow on Monday, a race in which Okagbare finished seventh.

The recent call by Malawi coach, Tom Saintfiet, for a change of venue for the September 7 World Cup qualifier in Calabar has been described as a reaction of a scared team looking for excuses before their defeat.

Former Super Eagles coach, Christian Chukwu, said Malawi were only trying to turn the pressure on Nigeria before the game is played.

Malawi had requested FIFA to force Nigeria make a change of venue for the crucial game, citing insecurity in Calabar.

Fake doctor takes delivery of over 90 babies

A man who holds a secondary school certificate, Stephen Nwankwo, but worked as a doctor in a fake hospital has been arrested alongside the owner of the hospital.

Nwankwo said they took delivery of over 90 babies within the two years he worked in the hospital established by 39-year-old Gabriel Onyema, another secondary school leaver, who lives in Ghana and sells paper.

The suspects spoke with journalists while being paraded on Friday at the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters, Ikeja.

Spokesperson for the police command, Ngozi Braide, said Nwankwo and Onyema were arrested by officers of Area ‘E’ Police Command, FESTAC Town, after a pregnant woman, who had gone to the hospital, died during labour.

Kwankwaso shuns Jonathan, Sambo at Abuja event

Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso shunned President Goodluck Jonathan on Friday in Abuja, during an award/gala night organised by the National Council of Women Societies in collaboration with the Office of the First Lady.

Kwankwaso, who was one of the five northern governors that had met with political leaders on the crisis in the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, played a hide-and-seek with Jonathan, Sambo and the party’s National Chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, at the event.

He refused to join other governors, who were on the same table with him when they all moved to the President’s table to exchange pleasantries with him; his wife, Patience; Sambo and his wife, Amina.

Tukur and the Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, Godswill Akpabio, were on the table beside that of the President.

Pastor Rapes and Impregnates Senior Pastor's Daughter; Now Runs A Miracle Church

A 29-year-old pastor standing trial for raping and impregnating his senior pastor’s daughter in Ikere-Ekiti, Ekiti State, has run away to establish his own church, and performing miracles.

He raped the girl in July last year when the youth of the church were having a special programme at night, but Damiolola’s mother said: “We did not know the girl was pregnant until January this year, while he (pastor) had hurriedly left in September 2012.”

The new church, which he started in Ikoyi area of Ikere-Ekiti, is said to be:

According to Daily Sun, the embattled pastor had been organizing revival programmes and crusade, calling members of the public who were not aware of his atrocities to come for miracles.

Magnitude 6.8 earthquake shakes New Zealand

An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.8 struck south of New Zealand’s capital, Wellington, on Friday, sending panicked workers and residents into the streets.

The quake is coming just weeks after a similar size quake struck the city.

The quake, which hit near the northern tip of New Zealand’s South Island, was at a depth of about 10 km, according to NZ Geonet.

While fire authorities said it was too early to assess the impact, there were some reports of superficial damage to buildings from the quake.

It, however, did not cause a wider tsunami alert, but sent items tumbling from shop shelves.

Air and rail services were being suspended while officials checked tracks and runways for damage.

Okagbare races into 200m final •Men’s 4x400m relay team crash out

Blessing Okagbare recovered from the disappointment of the 100m race on Tuesday when she powered home in 22.39 seconds on Thursday at the Luizhniki Stadium. The feat made her the third Nigerian woman to run in the finals of the 200m at the IAAF World championships after Mary Onyali and Fatimah Yusuf.
Running in the second semi-final alongside three-time winner and one of the big favourites for the gold medal, Allyson Felix of the USA, the Nigerian ran a relaxed race to pick the second automatic ticket for Friday (tonight’s) final behind Felix who ran a new personal season’s best of 22.31. Okagbare, with a season’s best of 22.31 seconds is one of the athletes tipped for medals. New Naira Notes Coming September Ending – CBN

The Central Bank of Nigeria would take delivery of new naira notes before the end of September for circulation, the Deputy Director, Operations, Dr. Tunde Lemo, has said.

Lemo stated this in an interview, on Wednesday in Abuja. The apex bank had earlier said that new naira notes would be in circulation by June, and that the smaller denomination notes (N5, N10, N20, and N50) would be reprinted on paper.

“We are going to take delivery of the new notes from this month of August. We are taking delivery of the new notes before the end of September.

Jang sues Dariye for libel, seeks N10bn

Plateau State Governor, Mr. Jonah Jang, has dragged his predecessor, Senator Joshua Dariye, before the court. The governor is demanding a N10bn compensation for libel and defamation of character.

Joined in the suit is Beacon Newspapers, published in Jos, the state capital.

In a suit filed at Jos High Court, Jang, through his counsel, Sunday Odey, averred that Dariye had, in a newspaper interview, libelled him by calling him a serial thief, who, along with his children and business associates, had been milking the state treasury dry.

Mandela Challenge: Nigeria whip S’Afica 2-0

In a spate of six months, Nigeria lifted a second trophy on South African soil after the Super Eagles defeated hosts Bafana Bafana 2-0 in the 2013 Nelson Mandela Challenge on Wednesday night. The first trophy was won in February when they grabbed the African Nations Cup under the same coach, Stephen Keshi.

Ogun women protest Senate resolution on child marriage

Hundreds of women on Wednesday stormed the streets of Abeokuta, Ogun State, to protest against the recent Senate resolution on child marriage.

The protesting women carried placards bearing various inscriptions such as ‘Give us education, not marriage,’ ‘Child marriage is barbaric,’ ‘Woe to husbands of underage,’ and ‘Ogun children reject child marriage.’

The women protesters carried out their action under the aegis of the Concerned Women Forum, which is made up of women groups, market women and men, religious groups, as well as civil society groups.

Addressing newsmen during the protest at the Iwe Iroyin House, Oke Ilewo, Abeokuta, secretariat of the Ogun State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, the Iyalode of Egbaland, Chief Alaba Lawson, condemned the passing of the resolution on early marriage by the lawmakers.

Jonathan, a drowning President –El-Rufai

A former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, has described President Goodluck Jonathan as a drowning President, who distorts facts.
El-Rufai, in a statement on Wednesday, insisted that Jonathan had resorted to ethnic and religious politics to score some political points.
The President’s spokesman, Dr. Reuben Abati, on Sunday described el-Rufai as “a serial liar” while responding to an interview the former minister granted Liberty FM,Kaduna, on Saturday.
El-Rufai, in the interview, said Jonathan was playing religious and ethnic politics.
The former minister, who, on Wednesday, insisted that Jonathan was playing the ethnic game, noted that the Presidency had not addressed issues he raised on Saturday.
He said, “It may interest the President to know that Nigerians are much wiser now and will not be deceived by the antics of a drowning president and his desperate aides.”

APC governors oppose autonomy for local govts

The policy position of the All Progressives Congress (APC) began to unfold yesterday as its governors opposed local governments autonomy.
The governors also said the power to alter the revenue allocation formula, which is vested in the President, should be transferred to the National Assembly.
The 11 governors met under the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital.
The House of Representatives voted for councils’ autonomy in the proposed amendment to the Constitution.
Apart from host Governor Tanko Al-Makura, the meeting was attended by Governors Kashim Shettima (Borno), Kayode Fayemi (Ekiti), Rauf Aregbesola (Osun), Babatunde Fashola (Lagos), Abiola Ajimobi (Oyo), Abdulazeez Yari (Zamfara), Ibikunle Amosun (Ogun) and Adams Oshiomhole (Edo). Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha was represented by his deputy Prince Eze Madumere. Yobe State Governor Ibrahim Geidam, who is away in Saudi Arabia for the lesser hajj, sent an apology.

Drama in court as Police re-arrest Amaechi’s men over alleged conspiracy

In what appears like a resolute move to clamp down on supporters of Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State, the Police, Wednesday, re-arrested the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Omuma Local Government Area of the state, Mr. Charles Amoefule, shortly after he was discharged by an Abuja Chief Magistrate’s Court. In the First Information Report, FIR, that was dismissed by Chief Magistrate Anthony Enahoro yesterday, police, alleged that Amoefule, conspired with one Godwin Onwukwe Anyanwu said to be at large, and caused an announcement to be made on two Radio stations in Abuja that the State Executive Council of PDP Rivers State had been dissolved and reconstituted.
It was further alleged that the embattled LG boss, in the said announcement which was made on July 11, 2013, declared himself as the new state chairman of the party, information the prosecution said incited disturbance in Rivers State and resulted to the breakdown of law and order.

ASUU faults Okonjo-Iweala over N92bn demand by union

IBADAN—The Academic Staff Union of Universities has described as a misrepresentation of facts, the comment made by the Co-ordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, that the striking university lecturers  demanded N92 billion as earned allowances in the 2009 agreement.
According to the union, which spoke through the Chairman, University of Ibadan chapter, Dr. Olusegun Ajiboye, the Federal Government and the minister are not telling the truth.
In a statement, the union said: “I want Nigerians to ask the minister where she got her figure of N92 billion from. There was never a time that ASUU made a demand that is up to N92 billion. I think the 92 billion naira is just the imagination of the Minister of Finance and Co-ordinating Minister of the Economy.”
Dr. Ajiboye clarified the issue noting that the earned allowances jointly calculated with the Federal Government and ASUU in the 2009 agreement was N87 billion and it covers allowances for three and a half years for thousands of lecturers in Nigerian universities.

Amaechi Can't Step Down for Jang - Nyako

GOVERNOR Murtala Nyako of Adamawa State gave an insight into the ongoing consultations to resolve the crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), rejecting suggestions that factional chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF), Governor Rotimi Amaechi would sep down from his position in line with the ongoing attempts to resolve the crisis besetting the forum.
Fielding questions from State House correspondents after a private meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan on Wednesday, he also asserted tthat he rival NGF chairman and Governor of Plateau State, Jonah Jang was too close to the President to be trusted to lead the governors’ body.
Also with the President was Governor Ibrahim Dankwabo of Gombe state but it was not clear whether he met with Jonathan jointly with his Adamawa counterpart.
Nyako posited that Jang would not be able to defend the interest of the governors if shouldered with the responsibility to lead the group as he was seen as a “yes man.”

Why We’re Challenging Al-Mustapha’s Release At S‘Court – Lagos

The Lagos State government has explained that it is challenging the acquittal of Major Hamza Al-Mustapha and others accused of the murder of Mrs Kudirat Abiola at the Supreme Court to ensure that all issues were fully articulated and the victim’s family, the defendants and the society were not deprived of the last window of opportunity provided by the constitution for the resolution of the case.
The Lagos State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Ade Ipaye gave this explanation at a press conference in Lagos, yesterday, and added that the appeal against the two judgements delivered by the Appeal Court was filed at the apex court on Monday.
The Appeal Court had last month upturned the judgement of the High Court of Lagos which passed death sentence on Al-Mustapha and Shofolahan.

ASUU strike: We’ll shut down Nigeria – Activists

Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial nerve centre, stood still for many hours yesterday, as over 1,000 university students, lecturers, human rights activists and other stakeholders took to the streets. They staged a peaceful rally to show their displeasure over what they termed ‘poor funding of education in the country.’As early as 6:00a.m, participants began to converge on the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), secretariat annex in Yaba, Lagos, for the protest. The rally eventually took off at 8:00a.m.The nationwide indefinite strike embarked upon by members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to protest poor funding of education by the government has been on since July 1.

NGF: Amaechi, Jang may be asked to step down

THERE are indications that the two factional chairmen of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Rivers State’s Rotimi Amaechi and Plateau’s Jonah Jang, may be asked to step down for a neutral governor as part of moves to resolve  the lingering NGF crisis.
The PUNCH learnt on Tuesday that this was one of the decisions reached at a meeting between ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo and the Peoples Democratic Party governors on Monday night.
Both Amaechi and Jang attended the meeting which was held inside the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
President Goodluck Jonathan and the National Chairman of the party,  Bamanga Tukur, were  not at the meeting which lasted till 11pm.
All the PDP governors, except the Governor of Bauchi State, Mallam Isa Yuguda, were in attendance.
A governor, who was at the meeting, said the governors were frank in their submissions while Obasanjo, who presided over the meeting, was said to have listened attentively.
