‘I do not belong to the illuminati’ – D’banj

Dbanj and Kanye West at the Paris Fashion Week, March 2012
Illuminati’ [ih-loo-muh-nah-tee]: A name that refers to a purported conspiratorial organization which is alleged to mastermind events and control world affairs through governments and corporations to establish a New World Order.
What does that scary definition have to do with a Nigerian pop star who says he is determined to make Nigerian music known far and wide? A lot, according to some people.
Dapo ‘D’banj’ Oyebanjo, on Friday October 5, 2012, during an interview on the ‘Morning Show’ at popular urban radio station BEAT 99.9 FM, was asked – ‘Are you a member of the Illuminati’? He calmly denied ever being a member of the ‘secret organization’ but we can’t help but wonder why he was even asked the question.

2face and D’banj announce first-ever collaboration

African giant pop acts – 2face and D’banj

If putting the names 2face Idibia and D’banj in the same sentence just gives you chills, then get ready to have a seizure, as the pop giants say they recently recorded a collabo.
During a BEAT FM interview last week, the pair disclosed that a video has already been shot for the Don Jazzy-produced song titled ‘Feeling good’. They then went on to sing some snippets, raising anticipation for its release.
Idibia and D’banj also hinted at possibly recording a collabo album someday, if time allows. Even though this might be a long shot, the idea definitely would be a great thhing for their fans to look forward to.
Both artistes have had a busy year so far. 2face released his fifth solo album ‘Away and Beyond‘ and has been on tour in the US and UK. He also tied the knot with long-time girlfriend Annie Macaulay after a surprise proposal on Valentine’s Day.
D’banj, on the other hand, made headlines for months after his break-up with former partner Don Jazzy. He successfully broke into the UK market under his G.O.O.D Music/Mercury Records record-distribution deal with his monster hit single ‘Oliver’. He is scheduled to release his fourth album ‘Mr Endowed’ (if that’s what he’s still calling it) pretty soon.

Uti Nwachukwu denies homosexual tales

Since shooting into limelight three years ago, actor-TV host, Uti Nwachukwu has managed to stay mostly scandal-free, but recently, this has changed, as tales about his sexuality are being peddled by soft sell magazines and blogs.

Kefee Exclusive: ‘I don’t live all my life spiritually’

She is many things packed into one: singer, wife, cook, business woman and performer. Taking time out of her busy schedule, the Delta State born singer spent time with Nigerian Entertainment Today, to talk about her many struggles with controversies, rumours and stereotyping.
Not long ago, you announced your intention to release two albums back to back. Why did you make that decision?
It’s been a while [since] I released an album and I have a lot of songs, so I decided to separate them because I have some beautiful choruses I would like to share. I made this first one [about] the spiritual part of me, and the other, the physical part. Both albums are going to be called ‘Best of Both Worlds’ and will contain 12 songs each. The spiritual one would be called ‘Chorus Leader’ because that is what I have always been. The other album, ‘Beautiful’ which is the physical one, has some playful songs on which I featured Duncan Mighty, Skales, Lami, Omotola, Becca and other artistes.
You are regarded as a gospel artiste, now you’re releasing an album with secular songs. Don’t you think that is a contrast to what you are known for?
I don’t think so, because as a Christian, I don’t live all my life spiritually. I am a human being and I don’t have a manual on how to live my life. The manual we have is the bible, and even the bible teaches us to make good use of every opportunity we have. I cannot get inspired to write a song, a love song for instance, and refuse [to write it] because people in church won’t like it. We fall in love in the church and that is not spiritual, but physical. We also play in the church because all work and no play… We have pastors who have businesses all over, it doesn’t affect their spiritual life. I do what I think is good, as long as it is right and inspiring. This is not the first time I am doing a song that is not ‘churchy’. I have written songs about Nigeria, the African woman and others. It is still the same Kefee.

Service chiefs: How Boko Haram influenced changes

Indications have emerged in Abuja that last Thursday’s announcement of new service chiefs followed last minute changes made by President Goodluck Jonathan to avert crisis within the Armed Forces if his original plan had been executed.
The new service chiefs include Vice Admiral Ola Ibrahim, Chief of Defence Staff; Rear Admiral Dele Ezeoba, Chief of Naval Staff; and Air Vice Marshal Alex Badeh, Chief of Air Staff, while Lt. General Azubuike Ihejirika, retained his position as Chief of Army Staff, COAS.
Presidency sources told Vanguard, weekend, that the President did not embark on sweeping retirements in the Armed Forces to prevent the Islamist sect, Boko Haram, from using it to win more converts and strengthen its attack machinery against the Federal Government.
Original plan The initial plan, according to the sources, was that the COAS, who had piloted the Army in an exemplary manner, especially in the face of the security situation in the country, was to become the Chief of Defence Staff. One of the GOCs was to be made Chief of Army Staff. The same plan was set down for the Navy and Airforce.
Had the President gone ahead with this initial plan, a sizeable majority of the next line of generals in the Army, Airforce and to a less extent Navy, with Northerners comprising over 50 percent of the personnel, would have been swept away from the Armed Forces, going by the terms and condition of service and seniority factor.

A short news item aired on the Nigerian Television Authority at 9pm showed the President’s visit to his wife, who is reported to be sick of an undisclosed ailment in Germany.
The news item was accompanied by a short video clip showing the President and his gorgeously dressed wife.
Patience, who was in high spirit was heard saying,  “Let me take picture with my husband.”

He said the video clip aired by NTA was a confirmation that the President’s wife was hale and hearty contrary to what some people wanted Nigerians to believe.
He said, “What that video has proved is that the President’s wife is hale and hearty and she is not in bad shape like people will want Nigerians to believe.
“The video has put paid to all the lies that people who play politics with almost everything have been spreading.
“It was clear from that video that the scene was not an hospital scene.”
