EFCC opposes Akingbola’s bid to travel abroad

Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Wednesday at a Lagos High Court, Ikeja, opposed an application by the former Managing Director of Intercontinental Bank Plc, Mr. Erastus Akingbola, seeking to travel abroad for medical treatment.
Akingbola is standing trial alongside the General Manager of Tropics Finance Ltd., Bayo Dada, for allegedly stealing N47.1bn belonging to Intercontinental Bank (now Access Bank Plc).
The former bank chief had filed the application dated last March 19, before Justice Adeniyi Onigbanjo, seeking the court to order the anti-graft agency to release his passport to enable him to travel to the United Kingdom for medical attention.

The top five Nigerian banks owned 60 percent of the banking sector assets in the country.  This was contained in a report released, Tuesday, by The Banker, a publication of Financial Times of London.
The top five banks, according to The Banker comprise Zenith Bank, Access Bank, First Bank, Guaranty Trust Bank and United Bank for Africa and owned about 60 percent of overall assets.
It said some foreign investors have suggested Nigeria will soon go the way of South Africa, where the four largest banks have an 85 percent market share.
For them, Nigeria’s mid-tier and small lenders will struggle to survive and several would be taken over by bigger rivals in the next few years”.

Ekiti dep gov for burial April 26

Ekiti State Government on Wednesday announced that the late Deputy Governor, Mrs. Funmilayo Olayinka, would be buried on April 26.
This was contained in a statement on Wednesday by the state Commissioner for Information, Mr. Tayo Ekundayo.
The statement read, “The remains of the late Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, Mrs. Funmilayo Adunni Olayinka, would be buried on Friday, April 26, 2013. The week-long activities for her state burial will commence on April 22nd.”
The statement was silent on where the remains would be buried.

Good news! The Psquare family have once again welcomed a new member to the celebrity family, Paul Okoye‘s first child, a bouncing baby boy, Andre!
Paul (who is one half of the Pop Star group Psquare) and his girlfriend Anita welcomed their child in the early hours of Thursday, April 11, 2013 in an Atlanta hospital, US, their publicist Bayo Adetu disclosed.
Mother and child are said to be doing fine.
