Eagles miss flight again, sleep in Madrid airport

The journey to Lima Peru for the Super Eagles appears to be forever duration as they were forced to sleep at the Madrid Airport on Sunday after the initial Saturday night miss in Lagos.
Following Saturday’s drug incident at the Murtala Mohammed Airport in Lagos, which forced the cancellation of the Iberia Airline flight that the Super Eagles were boarding to Lima via Madrid for Wednesday international friendly against Peru, it was double pain for the team as they missed the connecting flight from Madrid to Lima.
The Saturday night flight from Lagos was delayed for hours while National Drug Law Enforcement Agency searched the plane and passengers for illegal drugs. The long screening which was the second for the same flight that night later developed into an outright cancellation
The team departed Lagos at about 10.30am Nigerian time and got into Madrid at 4.30 Nigerian time but were told by officials of Iberia that they had missed the flight to Lima. The players were then forced to put up at the Madrid Airport, since they had only airport transit visas and could not be checked into any hotel in the city.
Provision was however made for the team’s meal in the airport by Iberia and later in the night players and officials moved to an arranged lounge were they put up and had light refreshments before going to bed.
