Azazi and Bello’s sack won’t stop summons on Jonathan –Reps

The House of Representatives has commended President Goodluck Jonathan for sacking the Minister of Defence, Dr. Mohammed Halim Bello, and National Security Adviser (NSA), General Patrick Azazi. Azazi’s surprise sack may be unsettling some service chiefs, particularly those close to the former NSA. They fear the new NSA might want to overhaul the security by recommending their removal from office.
The House, however, said its recent resolution, inviting President Jonathan to address the National Assembly on the nation’s security situation was still in force. Chairman, Committee on Media, Hon. Zakari Mohammed, told Daily Sun yesterday that the lawmakers were impressed by the president’s action, but would love to see a lasting solution to the security challenges.
“Yes, we commend the president for taking the decision. It is a good start. But we would love to see the changes yield good results, which is what Nigerians desire,” he said. On whether the House would drop its motion, summoning Jonathan to appear before the federal legislature, the House spokesman said the changes in the security hierarchy notwithstanding, the president would still have to appear.
“We have heard reports that the National Assembly is flexing muscles with the executive. This is false. We are only trying to interface. As representatives of the people, the least we owe them is to provide a platform for Mr. President to address them.“We did not invite President Jonathan for the fun of it. It is important for him to come and share what may be his frustrations that we don’t know. We may be able to help. After all, two heads, they say, are better than one,” he stressed.
