Why we chose Ondo for communication conference – Minister

Minister of Communications Technology, Mrs. Omobola Johnson

The Minister of Communication Technology, Mrs. Omobola Johnson, said Ondo State was chosen for the ongoing communication stakeholders’ national conference because of the state government’s bias for ICT-driven programmes.
The minister said this on Wednesday during a courtesy visit to the state Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko.
She said organisers of the conference took into account the fact that the state was at the forefront of ICT-driven programmes.
She mentioned one of the state’s programmes that elicited the conference organisers’ interest as its metrofibre project, which will enhance ICT connectivity and promote development across the state.
Another programme, which caught the conference organisers’ attention, she said, was the Residency Card (Kaadi Igbeayo) project, among others.

She said all the programmes indicated Mimiko’s understanding of communication technology.
Responding, Mimiko said his administration would continue to key into the broadband ICT transformation programme of the Federal Government.
He said most of his administration’s programmes, including the Residency Card, Abiye Safe Motherhood, payment of salaries and education reform, among others, were ICT-driven, noting that appreciable success had been recorded through them.
He, however, commended President Goodluck Jonathan for creating the ministry of communication technology in line with the global trend and also lauded the minister for her initiative and sense of direction.
Earlier, the minister had said that she was in Ondo State for the 2nd regular conference of the National Council on Communication Technology.
