The
Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Tuesday interrogated a
former Ogun State Governor, Gbenga Daniel, at the commission’s office in
Lagos.
EFCC sources told our correspondent on
Wednesday that the former governor was interrogated in relation to the
pending charges instituted against him at an Ogun State High Court, in
Abeokuta.
EFCC spokesperson, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, confirmed the development but declined to give details about the interrogation.
“He was in Lagos office on Tuesday for a brief interrogation. But I don’t have details of what transpired,” Uwujaren said.
However, one EFCC source said the interrogation which was said to be “a routine” took place briefly on Tuesday morning.
The former governor was said to have
been invited and interrogated by the investigators at the Economic and
Governance Unit of the EFCC.
The former governor is currently facing
38 counts of stealing, fraudulent conversion of land as well as
diversion of public funds during his tenure as governor.
However, unconfirmed sources said the
former governor was interrogated over allegations that he converted to
his personal use, import waivers obtained from the Federal Government.
Meanwhile Justice Olanrewaju Mabekoje of the Ogun State High Court had adjourned Daniel’s trial till February 6, 2014.
