NO fewer than about 1,909 graduates were on Monday, issued with letters of employment in Niger State.
Speaking at the official presentation ceremony in Minna, the state
governor, Dr Muazu Babangida Aliyu, stated that the graduate employment
scheme, under his administration, was introduced to both reduce the
level of joblessness among the youth and a deliberate policy measure
aimed at achieving the Vision 20:2020.
Aliyu, however, charged the lot to approach their new jobs with
passion and focused mind, warning that anyone found to either shirk
official responsibilities or develop lukewarm attitude to same, would be
sent packing and replaced with fresh hands.
He said Niger State had the largest population of civil servants in
Nigeria , a development, he noted, constituted a serious financial
challenge to the state government, just as he stressed that the
government could break even, if it learned to be innovative.
The governor also advised the state Head of Service to allow room
for the graduates to acquire further knowledge, adding that it was only
through this that they would gain more experience and exposure to
discharge their duties better.
