IG demands new strategies to tackle Jos crisis

Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Mohammed Abubakar, has directed senior officers in Benue and Plateau states to device new security strategies to tackle the perennial crisis in Jos.
Abubakar gave the directive in Abuja on Wednesday during  a meeting with senior police officers.
He directed the Assistant Inspector-General of Police Zone 4, Mr. Mike Zuokumor, and the Plateau  State Commissioner of Police, Mr Emmanuel Ayeni, to work out and submit the strategies to him on August 14.
Abubakar said, “Internal security is our core mandate. We must utilse our close  affinity with local communities and stakeholders to intervene meaningfully  in conflicts and restore calm to troubled areas of the country.
 “The AIG and the commissioner should immediately initiate  efforts targeted at restructuring and evolving effective security strategies to address the security challenges in Plateau.
“You must let me know before the close of work on  August 14  what new things we must do to restore permanent calm  to Plateau.”
The IG  said the strategies  must show practical and realistic solutions as well as specific and holistic designs on short, medium and long term solutions.
According to him,  the Jos crisis is  a problem that must be solved.
