Subsidy removal: Lawmaker attributes controversy to lack of trust

A member of the House of Representatives, representing Pankshin, Kanam, Kanke federal constituency, Plateau State, Honourable Emmanuel Go’ar, has declared that the resentment and controversy trailing the moves to remove fuel subsidy by the Federal Government is due to the fear of likely mismanagement of proceeds from such removal.
Speaking with news- men in Jos, Go’ar said the resentment was due to lack of trust based on the previous experiences, adding that the government needed to come up with justifiable reasons to convince Nigerians and as well, feel their pulse concerning the actions it intended to take.
“Making it an elitist affair won’t help both the government and the people. In the past, our government had not been upright enough in terms of management of resources, so there is the need for this government to come up with cogent reasons why it must remove the subsidy and how it is going to manage the proceeds.
“Because if you are not faithful with the one you have, how are you going to convince the citizens that you will judiciously handle the surplus you will get from removal of subsidy. This is part of the questions Nigerians are asking across the board,  based on their experiences, until the government provides answers to this and other salient questions, the resentment and criticisms may not abate” he said.

Exactly, I love the point raised by this Honourable, if you are not faithful in 'small things' so to say, you can't be faithful in the 'big one' when it comes. Simple and straight forward, with mismanagement of funds here and there, I dnt believe subsidy removal will be effective, infact that is now what we should be thinking about right now. Mr. president should rather concentrate on the fight against corruption and efforts geared towards proper management of funds and resources.
