Verde coach Lucio Antunes has warned opponents against underrating his
side at the ongoing South Africa 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Tubaroes Azuis (Blue Sharks), who
are participating at the continental showpiece for the first time, held
hosts Bafana Bafana to a goalless draw in the opening match of the
competition in Johannesburg on Saturday. On Wednesday, the newcomers
were denied an historic upset, after Morocco’s substitute Youssef
El-Arabi scored a late goal to grab an equaliser for the highly-rated
Atlas Lions in Durban.
Antunes, who leads his charges against
the physical Palancas Negras of Angola in their last Group A game on
Sunday, insists his team deserves some respect from the big sides.
“We have won both home and away against
some good teams in the past and even held Portugal to a draw away a few
years ago. We are strong home and away and we’ve got some fantastic
players,” he told Euro Sport on Thursday.
