JUSTICE Dalhatu Adamuof the Sokoto Division, on Monday, assumed duty as the acting President of the Court of Appeal, following his swearing-in by the ChiefJustice of Nigeria (CJN),
Justice Aloysius Katsina-Alu.
This followed the suspension of Justice Ayo Salami by the National Judicial Council (NJC).
However, Justice Adamu assumed duty with security beefed uparound the premises of the Court of Appeal.
Salami was suspended last Thursday by the NJC over misconduct. The council also recommended his retirement to President Goodluck Jonathan.
President Jonathan had,on Sunday, approved the suspension of Salami in accordance with the recommendation of the NJC.
In his speech at the brief ceremony, which came up at exactly 8.40 a.m. at the Supreme Court complex Abuja, Justice Katsina-Alu admonished the acting president to be forthright and focused as no one is a repository of wisdom.
He enjoined him to always listen to wise counsels and follow the dictates of his conscience and the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
After the swearing-in, Adamu was conveyed in an official Peugeot saloon vehicle with registration number FJ 01 CA to the headquarters of the Court of Appeal, where he officially assumed office as the acting head of the court.
When Nigerian Tribune visited the premises of the court, armed policemen were seen stationed at the entrance, and a thorough search was conducted on every car and individuals going into the court.
Some of the staff members of the court were sent back at the gate for failure to identify themselves. This made the premises, particularly the court section, to look like a ghost city as only a few staff members were seen within the court premises.
