GENNY, RAMSEY NOMINATED FOR UK AWARDS

Genevieve Nnaji, Ramsey Nouah, and Majid Michel are just some of several top West African actors who have been nominated for awards at the 2011 edition of the Screen Nation Awards. The Screen Nation Awards was founded in 2003, and it celebrates leading professionals of African heritage from the UK and overseas. In 2005, a number of West African categories were introduced to the awards, and past winners include Genevieve Nnaji, Osita Iheme, Chinedu Ikedieze, Stephanie Okereke, and Van Vicker

According to Charles Thompson (MBE), founder of the Screen Nation Awards, the upsurge of interest in West African Cinema in the UK, has led to the establishment of the Screen Nation Africa awards, which will hold in Nigeria, next year. It is also worth noting that several past winners in other categories at the Screen Nation Awards, such as Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Caroline Chikezie, and June Sarpong, have been of West African descent.
