WINNER of the gubernatorial primary of the Peoples Democratic Party
(PDP) conducted on January 9 in Kogi State, Alhaji Jibrin Isah, on
Sunday, said he remains the authentic candidate of the party ahead of
the December 3 governorship election.
The PDP chieftain, in a statement by his media consultant, Mr Phrank
Shaibu, said he remained the authentic, valid and lawfully nominated
gubernatorial candidate of the PDP for December 3 election.
He said according to the provisions of the PDP electoral guidelines
for primary elections in 2010, his nomination in January remained
sacrosanct, adding that the guidelines adopted by the party in January
was still in force.
The statement said since since the candidate who emerged in January
was still alive and had not withdrawn his candidacy in accordance with
the Electoral Act, his ticket could not be usurped by anyone.
Isah further said there were no provisions in the constitution and
Electoral Act, stating either expressly or by implication “that
nomination of a candidate for an election lapses where, for any
unforeseen circumstances, the date of an election is shifted by a reason
of supervening event as in Kogi State, where the date of the election
had to be shifted by the reason of the court on the tenure of the
incumbent governor.”
He said what was designed to be a celebrated primary on September 22
was nothing but a stage play, doctored and stage-managed by the leader
of the party in the state, so as to mislead the unsuspecting public.
Isah asked his followers to remain steadfast, adding that his programme for rallies and campaigns would soon be rolled out.
