Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has been dealt a major
blow ahead of Sunday’s crunch clash with Manchester United, after
Thierry Henry joined Mikel Arteta, Thomas Vermaelen and Bacary Sagna in
being rated as ‘doubtful’.
The 34-year-old added his name to Arsenal’s vast
injury list, that already includes long-term absentees Jack Wilshere,
Abou Diaby, Kieran Gibbs, Andre Santos, Carl Jenkinson and Francis
Coquelin, after limping out of training complaining of a calf problem.
Henry has since had a scan, and the Gunners are
hopeful the results will only show his calf is tight, and not badly
injured, allowing him enough time to rest and be fit ahead of the much
anticipated fixture with United at the Emirates.
Wenger was trying hard to get the on-loan striker fit
enough to start against Manchester United on Sunday and if he gets fit
on time it would mean Henry will lineup against another veteran Paul
Scholes who came out of retirement to rejoin his old club .
Wenger is also hoping to have Arteta and Thomas
Vermaelen back from their respective calf and shin injuries, while Sagna
is seen as a little way off fitness, and only currently rated at 50:50.
