Imo blames commissioner’s kidnap on opposition politicians

Imo State Government has blamed opposition politicians in the state for the kidnap of the Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Lady Chioma Ogoke, last weekend.

The government said the aim of the opposition politicians was to paint it black before the people of the state.
Speaking on behalf of the government, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor, Mr. Chinedu Offor, insisted that Ogoke’s kidnap was politically motivated and aimed at embarrassing the government.
Offor said: “The kidnap of the Commissioner was politically motivated but the government is on top of the situation. The whole thing is aimed at embarrassing the government.”
He said news of insecurity of life and property in the state would definitely scare potential investors from coming and investing in the state.
Meanwhile, angry reactions have started trailing Offor’s accusation since it was broadcast on the channels of an Owerri-based radio station.
Reacting, Nze Chukwuebuka Okoro Ike urged government to “get down to serious business of securing the state and its citizens because the blame game will be counter-productive.”
He further reasoned that before the advent of the Okorocha administration, kidnapping was in vogue, adding that since millions of tax payers money had been spent in procuring and setting up the Operation Rescue security outfit, including vehicles and communication gadgets for the security agencies, it should get down to business.
“Government’s present stand on the commissioner’s kidnap is diversionary. It borders on witch hunting of imaginary enemies of the administration. The accusation is as senseless as it is baseless,” Ike said.
