Polls: NSCDC deploys 30,000 personnel

Ahead of the gubernatorial elections in Bayelsa, Sokoto and Cross Rivers states, Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC, yesterday, said it had deployed 30,000 personnel to ensure adequate security coverage of the areas, with a view to ensuring hitch-free polls.
Rising from a security meeting with senior officers at the zonal, state and divisional commands in Abuja, Director-General of the corps, Dr. Ade Abolurin, said the personnel would focus more on public places such as churches, mosques, motor parks, state secretariats, newspaper stands and recreational centres, among others.
The number of personnel to be deployed to each of the state, according to Abolurin in a statement by corps spokesman, Mr. Okeh Emmaneul, will depend on intelligence report as well as the volatile nature of the state, taking into consideration activities of political parties and their actors.
Bayelsa State has the highest number of personnel with 10,000 posted there, while Sokoto and Cross Rivers have 6,000 personnel each due to what NSCDC described as the political terrain of the states.
