House of Representatives Committee on Communication yesterday
queried the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, budget proposal of
N75 million to replace old toilet doors, locks, repainting of fading
walls and provision of directional sign posts to the commission’s
waiting room and canteen.
This disclosure was made during the 2012 budget defence by the
commission’s management led by Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive,
Dr. Eugene Juwah, with the Chairman of the committee, Rep Oyetunde Ojo,
raising an objection over the budget of N25 million as legal fees for a
lawyer who drafted a bill, which he said was already before the House.
The committee also queried N30 million budgeted for replacement of
old furniture, despite an allocation of N25 million for same purpose
last year, and as well as the N10 million proposal for replacement of
air conditioners, despite an allocation of N10 million in year 2011 for
same item.
The committee equally questioned why the commission would propose N89
million for project vehicles and also budget N72 million for quality of
service monitoring vehicles.
