Tension
is still high in Agiliti, Mile 12 area of Lagos following a clash
between Hausa youths and their Yoruba counterparts in the area on
Monday.
Our correspondents report that police vans were still
stationed around the area made up of three streets: Oniyanrin, Adeyeye
and Nuhu Oluwo on Tuesday.
A resident of the area, Toyin Oloruntobi, told one of
our correspondents during a visit to the area that most of the Yoruba
youths were wary of staying around the area.
“People here are sleeping with one eye open. I don’t think this is a problem that will go away like that,” she said.
The spokesperson of the state police command, Mr.
Joseph Jaiyeoba, however, told one of our correspondents on Tuesday that
the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Umar Manko, along with senior police
officers had held a meeting with the leaders of the warring youths.
“The CP urged the two groups to set up committees and
reconvene for another meeting, which would offer a lasting solution to
the crisis,” Jaiyeoba said.
Meanwhile, a man, Suleiman Musa, lost his life while
two others sustained injuries after a heavy-duty truck lost control and
hit them at Mile 12 on Tuesday.
“A bus hit a Bedford truck with registration number
XB 782 GGE, which then killed Musa and injured two others. They have
been taken to hospital for treatment,” Jaiyeoba said.
