EFCC summons oil marketers Over subsidy claims

Ibrahim Lamorde, Acting EFCC Chairman

THE Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has summoned some oil marketers over the ongoing probe into the subsidy claims on the Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) (petrol) in the oil sector.
Commission’s spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren, confirmed the summoning, preparatory to their questioning.
He claimed not to know the identities of those summoned.
He also claimed not to know how many they were.
It was learnt that they would start making appearances at the commission’s headquarters this week, though the image-maker was not sure of the exact dates the questioning would take place.
The questioning may be in batches.
The commission, last week, raided the office of the Petroleum Products Pricing Agency (PPPRA) for documents on the subsidy payments.
President Goodluck Jonathan ordered the probe in the heat of strike and street protests over the removal of subsidy on petrol by the Federal Government, which shot up the pump price of the product.
It was learnt that arrests would not be made until the conclusion of investigation.
