Escaped Boko Haram suspect: Zakari Biu detained

THE Commissioner of Police, Zakari Biu, in whose custody the most wanted bomber, Kabiru Umar, alias Kabir Sokoto, escaped in the early hours of Monday last week is now in detention. Informed police sources disclosed to the Nigerian Tribune in Abuja that the commissioner was put in detention, following an order from the Minister of Police Affairs, Navy Captain Caleb Olubolade (retd). The source revealed that Biu was initially detained in Area 10, Force CID, Abuja, last week, but was later moved to an undisclosed location, at the weekend. Nigerian Tribune gathered that Biu is expected to appear this week before the panel set up by the National Security Adviser (NSA) General Andrew Owoye Azazi, late last week to investigate the circumstances surrounding Kabir Sokoto’s escape. The police source disclosed that the government had already submitted a petition against Biu to the Police Service Commission (PSC), which will take out appropriate disciplinary action against the police boss. This will pave the way for his prosecution if he is found guilty by the commission for negligence of duty. Meanwhile, as the police continue the manhunt for Kabir Sokoto, his picture has been circulated around all the security agencies, for easy identification and his arrest.
