Sacking IGP, no solution to bombings in the country – Yari

Zamfara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulaziz Yari, yesterday said that the removal of the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Mr. Hafiz Ringim, would not solve the security challenges  facing the country, as well as the series of bombings across the Northern part of the country by  the Islamic sect, Boko Haram.
Speaking to newsmen at the Presidential Wing of Murtala Muhammed Airport Lagos, Governor Yari said security personnel should do their jobs efficiently especially in the area of intelligence gathering.
He said: “Personally, I want to say that the removal of service chiefs  may not improve security in the country, but let the security men do their jobs most especially when it comes to the issue of intelligence gathering.”
He said security could improve in the country if security personnel were given adequate information and support, adding that he would not blame them for the insecurity in the country.
He said: “In Nigeria today, we know the situation of security. To me, I won’t put the blame on security agencies because in some other counties, security agencies are given the required information thereby encouraging them to do their jobs.”
“For instance, in those days, we heard of  bombings in the Middle East and we never expected this kind of challenge even in the next 40 years in Nigeria. I don’t expect it in Nigeria because the general belief is that the country is one whether Christians or Muslims”
“We can understand the bombings in Iraq because of domination of one sect. For instance, Shite sect has more than 90 per cent domination, but in Nigeria, the situation is not like that. Therefore, in Nigeria, the issue of security goes beyond changing of security chiefs, there are lots of things to be done. First, our security must be trained to meet the challenges of today and that is the most important”
