IGP Abubakar’s first day in office

New Police Inspector General, Mohammed Dikko Abubakar, arrived the Police Force Headquarters, in his smart blue and black uniform around 9.45am to a gallant show put up by a police quarter guard on hand to welcome him to his new post.
Colourfully dressed policemen on horseback ushered the new IGP into the force headquarters.
Shortly after the brief arrival ceremony, Abubakar immediately proceeded upstairs to a meeting with his former IG, Hafiz Ringim, where he took briefing and hand over notes from his predecessor.
Present at that meeting which lasted over three hours were all the former DIGs whose retirement became inevitable with the ascension of IGP Abubakar.
Thereafter, both Abubakar and Ringim, accompanied by the retired DIGs and other members of the Police Force hierarchy, came down to formally address and brief the press on the handover details.
They went back to finalise hand over formalities and continued further briefings.
The atmosphere at Nigeria Police Force Headquarters, Abuja, yesterday, was one of  a relief.
The coming of IGP Abubakar seemed to have induced fresh impetus into the rank and file of the force, as policemen who spoke to Vanguard, vowed to put in their best to track down anyone and anything that will further compound the security state of the nation.
