Anxiety has gripped many candidates who sat for the May/June West African Examinations Council (WAEC) Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE) in some parts of the country as the examination body released two conflictingresults within the last two weeks.
WAEC had earlier in the month, released resultsfor the school- based examination on its website, only for it to later post another set of results which were totally different from the earlier one.
This development caused apprehension among many candidates, especially those who wrote the examination in Minna, the Niger State capital, as many of them, at the weekend, rushed tothe Cyber Cafe to cross-check their results. They were, however, shocked when they found new grades posted in their favour.
Some of the candidateswere graded for subjects they did not sit for, while some had their entire results changed.
Confused by this development, parents and candidates trooped to the Minna office of the examination body to verify which of the two results was authentic.
When Nigerian Tribune visited the office of thebranch controller of the examination body in Minna on Monday, many of the protesting candidates were seen with the printout of thetwo different results posted in their favour.
Addressing newsmen, the branch controller, who refused to disclosehis name, directed all enquiries to the council’s headquarters in Lagos, claiming that he was not competent to react on behalf of the council.
He, however, admitted that the problem was not peculiar to Minna or Niger State.(Nigerian Tribune)
